- What is Invisalign?®
Invisalign is the clear way to straighten your teeth without braces. It uses a series of nearly invisible, comfortable, removable aligners to straighten your teeth without metal wires or brackets.
- How Does Invisalign Work?
You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move a certain amount for each tray until they have straightened to the final position your dentist has prescribed. You’ll visit your dentist about once every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time averages 9 – 15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.
- What are the primary benefits of Invisalign?
There are three primary benefits of Invisalign: 1) Invisalign is clear and nearly invisible so you can straighten you teeth without the more noticeable wires used for braces. 2) Invisalign is removable so you can eat and drink what you want in treatment. You can also brush and floss normally to maintain good oral hygiene. 3) Invisalign is comfortable. There are no metal brackets or wires to cause mouth irritation. No metal or wires also means you spend less time in the doctor’s chair getting adjustments.
- Does insurance cover Invisalign?
Because medical benefits differ significantly from policy to policy, each patient should review their coverage. However, if a patient has orthodontic coverage, Invisalign should be covered to the same extent as conventional braces.
